In den letzen Wochen haben sich bei der Planung der Funktionen der neuen Version noch sehr viele Veränderungen ergeben. Diese sind noch nicht alle in der Roadmap integriert. Eine Roadmap bezeichnet üblicherweise ein Dokument mit den Planungen der Softwareentwickler.

Die Version 2.0 hat sehr viele Änderungen im gesamten Programmkern. Daher ist hier mit einer sehr umfassenden und intensiven Testphase zu rechnen.

Erfreulicherweise gibt es nun einen Entwickler für das Workshop-Modul. Damit besteht gute Aussicht mit einer neuen Version weiter Funktionen wie Selbstbewertung und Peer-Bewertung nutzen zu können.

In den letzten Wochen sind zudem intensive Diskussionen über Designfragen geführt worden. Es sieht aktuell so aus, als würde ein Templatemodell eingeführt mit dem eine wesentlich flexiblere Gestaltung aller Elemente möglich wird.

Einige Funktionen, die in der Entwicklung weit vorangeschritten sind:
- Conditional Activities -> Lernpfade
- Markierung von Inhalten als bearbeitet
- Optimierung des Bewertungsbereichs (vermutlich schon in 1.9.5)
- Systemweite Gruppen
- neue Dateiverwaltung
- neuer Editor
- vereinfachte Videointegration
- Integration externer Dateiablagen (Repositories), z.B. direkter Zugriff auf Flickr-Bilder oder Google-Docs-Dateien
- Anbindung an Mahara, um Kursinhalte ins eigene Portfolio zu übertragen

Stellen Sie dazu den Text als Textseite (mit oder ohne Editor ein). Richten Sie zusätzlich ein Glossar mit Autoverlinkung ein.

Die Teilnehmer haben nun die Aufgabe Begriffe oder Textpassagen zu kommentieren. Dazu tragen Sie die Textpassage, die sie kommentieren wollen als Begriff im Glossar ein und tragen als Beschreibung ihre Frage, ihren Kommentar oder die Verbesserung ein. Wenn sie dann noch Autoverlinkung für den Begriff aktivieren, sind die Kommentare direkt aus dem Text heraus aufrufbar.

In manchen Situationen mag es sinnvoll sein, die Kommentierungen nicht sofort sichtbar werden zu lassen, sondern sie als Trainer/Lehrer erst einmal durchzusehen. Dazu kann man die Funktion der Freigabe vor Veröffentlichung in den Glossar-Einstellungen verwenden.

Als Trainer kann ich mir die Kommentare später auch nach Teilnehmern sortiert im Glossar anzeigen lassen. (z.B. für Bewertungszwecke)

Noch ein Hinweis am Ende. Falls im Kurs auch an anderer Stelle mit Glossaren und Autoverlinkung gearbeitet wird, kann es zu begrifflichen Überschneidungen kommen.
Dann ist es u.U. hilfreich in der Aufgabenstellung darauf hinzuweisen und nicht nur einzelne Begriffe, sondern kurze Passagen ins Glossar aufzunehmen.

Die aktuellen Schulungstermine für Moodle wurden soeben veröffentlicht.

Der nächste Train-the-Trainer-Kurs findet vom 29.-30. April in Bonn statt. Die Teilnehmergruppe ist max. 6 Persnen groß.

Viele Moodle-Systeme lassen das Anlegen neuer Nutzer über eine Selbstanmeldung nicht zu. Daher stellt sich das Problem gar nicht.

Überall dort wo sich Teilnehmer jedoch selber einen Zugang anlegen sollen erhalten Sie per Email eine Bestätigung. Erst wenn der darin enthaltene Link bestätigt wird, ist der Zugang aktiv geschaltet. In aller Regel verhindert dieses Verfahren wirkungsvoll, dass Unfug angestellt wird. Unbestätigte Accounts werden vom System automatisch wieder gelöscht.

Dennoch ist es zum Jahreswechsel vereinzelt vorgekommen, dass durch Scripte neue Nutzer angelegt wurden. Im Einzelfall waren das mehrere hundert neue Nutzer. Inn nahezu allen Fällen konnten diese Nutzer das System nicht nutzen und leicht wiedser entfernt werden.

Der Schutz durch Captcha-Systeme ist technisch wirkungsvoll, da bei entsprechender Verfremdung die Ziffern und Buchstaben nicht durch Texterkennungsprogramme ausgelesen werden könne, um sich anzumelden.

Nachteil ist jedoch, dass es vielen Menschen ebenfalls schwer fällt, diese Texte und Ziffern zu erkennen. Unschärfe, durchgestrichene, tanzende Buchstabune und geringe Farbkontraste erschweren es vielfach die richtigen Buchstaben zu erkennen. Menschen mit Einschränkungen im Sehbereich (Blinde, Farbenblinde) haben dann keine Chance.

Moodle legt immer größeren Wert auf die Erfüllung der Anforderungen zum barrierefreien Zugang. Seit einigen Tagen gibt es in der aktuellsten Version auch eine Unterstützung für den Captcha-Schutz.

Dabei wird ein Verfahren gewählt, das sich nicht nur auf eine bildhafte Darstellung beschränkt. Alternativ kann man sich den Text auch vorlesen lassen und dann die Ziffern und Zahlen eintragen.

Die Funktionalität ist in der Version 1.9.+ enthalten.

• Neues Bewertungsystem. Das alte gradebook wurde völlig neu programmiert.
• Ein neues Theme (Oberfläche) mit runden ‘Ecken’.
• Die Breite der äußeren Spalten kann individuell festgelegt werden.
• Im persönlichen Profil können Interessen definiert werden. Andere Nutzer mit gleichen Interessen können darüber gefunden werden.

Es wird in der Beta-Phase besonders wichtig sein, die Funktionen des gradebooks zu prüfen.
Die Veröffentlichung der fertigen Version ist im September zu erwarten.

Nach unserer Erfahrung sollte man bei neuen Hauptversionen etwas Zeit verstreichen lassen bevor man sie in bestehenden Systemen produktiv einsetzt.

The Moodle interface is now compliant with XHTML Strict 1.0 and major accessibility standards.

* Moodle Network - Catalyst, Richard Wyles

We can now set up peer Moodle installations allowing users to roam from one site to another, using comprehensive SSO and transparent remote enrolments. Administrators at the originating Moodle install can see logs of remote activity. You can also run your Moodle in “Hub” mode where any Moodle install can connect and users roam across.

* Web Services API - Catalyst, Richard Wyles

The Moodle Network code includes an XML-RPC call dispatcher that can expose the WHOLE Moodle API to trusted hosts. We will building on this in further versions but you can start using it now if you need to.

* Moodle forms library - Moodle.com

Majority of forms now use a single API for defining forms consistently and collecting data safely without using any HTML at all.

* Multi Authentication - Iñaki Arenaza / Catalyst / Moodle.com

It is now easier to configure multiple sources of authentication at once. WARNING: the format for authentication plugins has changed, so custom plugins may be broken, however it’s very easy to convert old code to the new format. More details can be found in /auth/README.txt.

* Customisable User Profiles - Pukunui Technology

Allow new arbitrary fields to be added to the user profile, with more control over what fields appear on what signup and profile editing screens.

* Groups refactor - OU / Moodle.com

Groups code has been reorganised to make it more flexible for the future (see 1.9).

* Roles improvements - Moodle.com

In addition to many Roles fixes and refinements, Moodle 1.8 has separated the SYSTEM context from the SITE context (which makes it more like 1.6 used to work). The SITE context is the “front page course” and its activities. This should make it easier for admins to set up permissions. Login as and switching of roles was rewritten. Administrators can view recommended permission settings of legacy roles and may reset legacy roles to defaults.

* Support for ODS export - Moodle.com

Open Document Format should solve majority of current problems with exports into proprietary Excel format. You may need to install special import plugin if you are using MS Office.

* Roles

Permissions based on fine-grained capabilities allow all kinds of roles to be created and assigned in all contexts around Moodle. This creates a great deal more flexibility in the permissions that you can grant to people.

* XML Database Schema

added support for MS-SQL and Oracle with more databases to come. Developers now have just one XML file to edit when changing the database structure, and there is even a very funky editor for this file built-in to Moodle

* New Admin interface

Completely new admin interface, with accessible design and cool features to make access to settings fast and easy.

* Unit testing framework

Making it easier for developers to write test code, which should ultimately lead to a more reliable Moodle.

* AJAX Course editing (STILL UNSTABLE IN 1.7 RELEASE AND OFF BY DEFAULT, USE WITH CAUTION!)

The Topics and Weekly course formats now feature AJAX editing which means you can drag drop blocks, activities and sections (weeks/topics) and it all happens instantly. No more page reloading!

Module improvements

* Improvements to the Quiz module

* The teacher can configure comments that are displayed to the student at the end of their attempt, with the comment displayed depending on the student’s score.

* Improvements to some core question types

* All question types can now have some general feedback. This is displayed to all students after they have finished the question (depending on the quiz settings) and does not depend on what response the student gave. Use this to tell the student what the question was about, or link them to more information about the topic it covers.
* Matching questions can have extra wrong answers, and work when two questions have the same answer.
* Multiple Choice questions can have feedback for the whole question, as well as specific answers. This is particularly useful for multiple-response questions.
* Numerical questions can have different answers with different precisions and scores. (Previously this was only supported via GIFT import. Now you can edit questions like this.)

* Improvements to the Wiki module

* While editing a wiki page it is now locked so that others cannot try to change it at the same time. Teachers can override the lock.
* Minor bugfixes (mostly to fix problems that occured when using Postgres database).

Enrolment plugin improvements

* Authorize.net Payment Gateway enrolment plugin

* Accepts ‘Electronic Checks (ACH)’. After a user approving echeck, an admin who has upload csv capacity must import a CSV file to get the user enrolled in the Payment Management page.
* Autoconfigures credit card and echeck types if the merchant does not accept some types of them.
